City of Mount Gambier continues to review its response to COVID-19 in an effort to protect the community and contain the spread of the virus.

As the impact of COVID-19 continues to reverberate across the country, the need to invest heavily in the social and economic well-being of our community is of utmost importance.

The health and wellbeing of the community remains Council’s highest priority. Having considered the most current health advice the City of Mount Gambier, in the interest of public and employee safety has implemented changes to services and activities for the foreseeable future.

COVID-19 LOCKDOWN MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR - 20 July 2021

The State Government has advised that a seven-day statewide lockdown will be enforced from 6:00pm 20 July 2021, due to a cluster of COVID-19 cases in South Australia.

I understand and appreciate the frustration some people feel when the government takes action to limit interactivity. However, these directives are issued to protect the health and safety of our community. Medical experts have advised that the Delta strain of COVID-19 is highly transmissible, so strict precautions are necessary to stop the spread of the virus.

Premier Steven Marshall has indicated that there are only five reasons to leave your home, and they are for care and compassion, essential work, purchase of essential goods such as food, medical reasons including vaccinations, and exercise, with members of your own household for up to 90 minutes a day and within 2.5 kilometres of your house.

Please ensure that you wear a mask and use the QR codes or the manual check in system when you visit locations throughout the city during the seven-day lockdown.

We have been through this before and we will do so again. I ask that we show compassion and understanding towards each other during these difficult times and if you are feeling anxious, please reach out to someone you know. If you require mental health support, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636.

I encourage you to stay alert and informed about the current COVID-19 restrictions and advice in this ever-changing environment at: www.covid-19.sa.gov.au

Council will continue to assess the situation as we receive additional advice and directions from the State Government and SA Health.

Please take care of yourself and your loved ones.
