Consultation has concluded

City of Mount Gambier continues to review its response to COVID-19 in an effort to protect the community and contain the spread of the virus.

As the impact of COVID-19 continues to reverberate across the country, the need to invest heavily in the social and economic well-being of our community is of utmost importance.

The health and wellbeing of the community remains Council’s highest priority. Having considered the most current health advice the City of Mount Gambier, in the interest of public and employee safety has implemented changes to services and activities for the foreseeable future.

COVID-19 LOCKDOWN MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR - 20 July 2021

The State Government has advised that a seven-day statewide lockdown will be enforced from 6:00pm 20 July 2021, due to a cluster of COVID-19 cases in South Australia.

I understand and appreciate the frustration some people feel when the government takes action to limit interactivity. However, these directives are issued to protect the health and safety of our community. Medical experts have advised that the Delta strain of COVID-19 is highly transmissible, so strict precautions are necessary to stop the spread of the virus.

Premier Steven Marshall has indicated that there are only five reasons to leave your home, and they are for care and compassion, essential work, purchase of essential goods such as food, medical reasons including vaccinations, and exercise, with members of your own household for up to 90 minutes a day and within 2.5 kilometres of your house.

Please ensure that you wear a mask and use the QR codes or the manual check in system when you visit locations throughout the city during the seven-day lockdown.

We have been through this before and we will do so again. I ask that we show compassion and understanding towards each other during these difficult times and if you are feeling anxious, please reach out to someone you know. If you require mental health support, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636.

I encourage you to stay alert and informed about the current COVID-19 restrictions and advice in this ever-changing environment at: www.covid-19.sa.gov.au

Council will continue to assess the situation as we receive additional advice and directions from the State Government and SA Health.

Please take care of yourself and your loved ones.

    Thank you for your question.

As the management of border movements during Covid-19 is undertaken by South Australia Police, Council has little influence over the delivery of this activity. We recommend that you contact the Mount Gambier Police Station with any questions or concerns on (08) 8735 1020.

    Kind regards

In the first instance, please seek a consultation with a General Practicioner (GP) who can advise on the most appropriate steps to get tested and provide a referral. Please call ahead for an appointment and follow the advice and procedures provided by each local service.

Upon referral from your GP, there is a COVID-19 Clinic at Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service, located at a separate transportable on the left-hand side of the Emergency Department. Follow the road signs and enter via the Wehl Street entrance. The clinic operates Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm by appointment. Note that a GP referral is required

Please call on 8721 1666 to book an appointment prior to presentation.

Hi Belle. Thanks for your question.

Due to its role in providing hospitals and other related health services throughout South Australia, decisions relating to the release or management of health-related data are made at a State Government level. As a result, the City of Mount Gambier is unable to directly assist in this area. For more information about SA Health and their response to Covid-19, please visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au

    Thanks for your question.

The temporary conditions attached to the walking direction around the Blue Lake have been applied in response to a range of feedback from our community regarding the challenges attached to adequately maintaining social distance when passing others in some of the surrounding walkways.

While we appreciate that the temporary clockwise-only system may not meet the needs and expectations of all regular users of the area, like all responses to Covid-19, we rely on all community members working together to reduce the spread.

Where the temporary conditions attached to the Blue Lake walking trail creates issues for individuals, the City of Mount Gambier recommends considering one of the many alternative open spaces in the city where social distancing measures can be more effectively maintained during exercise.

We thank all community members for their patience and cooperation during this period.
