UPDATE: Consultation Closed - The Sport, Recreation and Open Spaces Strategy was endorsed at the Council Meeting on 19 April 2022.

The City of Mount Gambier is home to an abundance of parks, reserves and sporting facilities that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy. Council knows that open spaces are important to our community, whether it's for sporting activities, exercise, socialising with family and friends or walking the dog, everyone uses and values open spaces differently.

To continue to provide quality, well-planned spaces and guide the future direction of open spaces and facilities in Mount Gambier, in early 2021 Council commenced work on the development of a Sport, Recreation and Open Spaces Strategy.

The first of its kind for Mount Gambier, the Sports, Recreation and Open Space Strategy explores our existing strengths and points of difference, highlight our opportunities for improvement and sets a vision and key goals for Council to pursue in collaboration with our community into the future.

In development of this strategy, the project team conducted surveys, drop in sessions, interviews, workshops and roundtables with a range of key stakeholders.

The key themes highlighted through the consultation can be found in the Consultation Summary.

On Tuesday 18 January 2022, Council endorsed the draft strategy and initiated a further period of community consultation for feedback prior to the final strategy being presented for endorsement.

We then invited our community to review the following documents and provide their feedback:

  1. The Background and Needs Analysis Report; and
  2. The Draft Sports Recreation and Open Space Strategy

This feedback closed at 5.00 pm on Tuesday 8 February 2022 and the project team are currently considering all comments prior to returning the draft to Council for final endorsement.
