We're currently calling for expressions of interest from local musicians who would like to participate in the program, potentially also as paid artists in the Homemade Jam Micro-Festivals. Register your interest to find out more.
Delivered successfully in a range of regions across Australia, 'Live and Local' is a tried and tested model that seeks to support the growth of venue-based live music through the delivery of unique performance opportunities and professional development activity for local live music communities.
Mount Gambier is the first community in regional South Australia to host the Live and Local program, presenting Homemade Jam: Mount Gambier Live and Local, with activity commencing in September 2021.
Homemade Jam: Mount Gambier Live and Local, will support artists and venues by providing them with opportunities to:
increase business knowledge and professional development
engage in creative skills development; and
bolster connections between venues and industry practitioners.
Homemade Jam: Mount Gambier Live and Local will:
Pilot a Micro Music Festival around the city centre to showcase local performers and unique venues
Deliver professional development workshops to artists and venues and practitioners
Facilitate a Music Industry Roundtable to gather input into what a thriving music scene could look like for Mount Gambier
Develop a Live Music Action Plan that caters to the needs of regional artists, venues and audiences
Homemade Jam: Mount Gambier Live and Local outcomes include:
Paid performance opportunities for musicians
The establishment of a Live Music Working Group to support the growth of live music in Mount Gambier
The activation of unique spaces with live music
Exploration of systems to better communicate live music performance and availability in Mount Gambier into the future
A census of past and present live music activity in Mount Gambier
Increased confidence for musicians and businesses in delivering live music activity
Articulating the ingredients required to foster a thriving, fulfilling and sustainable live music industry in Mount Gambier

The City of Mount Gambier has partnered with the Live Music Office and APRA AMCOS to deliver the program which been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

To participate in Live & Local, you must live in or close to the City of Mount Gambier.
The Micro Festivals will support acoustic artists and soloists, duos, and trios who can work in easily with non-traditional local venues.
