Caroline Landfill - Community Land Classification
Consultation has concluded
Caroline Landfill is an almost 55 Hectare parcel land located on Kain Road, Yahl in the District Council of Grant approximately 12 kilometres from the Mount Gambier city centre.
It is crown land which has been dedicated to the City of Mount Gambier for refuse purposes and is classified as community land. As such it is required to be managed in accordance with the community land provisions in the Local Government Act 1999.
The Act provides that Council must adopt a Community Land Management Plan for all community land and the land must be managed in accordance with the adopted plan.
A Community Land Management Plan provides a framework for Council to manage and develop community land and must provide for, amongst other things, that the land is, or is to be, occupied under a lease or licence.
Council is proposing to revoke the classification of community land for Caroline Landfill. The land is dedicated to City of Mount Gambier for refuse purposes. This purpose and the management of the land for this purpose is inconsistent with the land being classified as community land.
Council has released for public consultation three proposals for Caroline Landfill and invites interested persons to provide feedback on the following:
- Adoption of the proposed Community Land Management Plan,
- Granting the proposed lease for business use over community land,
- Proposal for Revocation of Community Land Classification.
