About Us

The City of Mount Gambier adopted Learning as a key theme and strategy. Learning is one of our key strategic goals and we aim “To be recognised as a learning community which encourages, respects and celebrates learning for all groups and members of our community”. 

We recognise that the learning journey begins at birth and continues until death. And at every stage of life, for learning to be effective, opportunities for informal and formal learning should be made available to all residents from various learning settings.

A well educated workforce and a propensity towards lifelong learning are expected to experience higher levels of economic growth are more adaptive and innovative and are more resilient to negative outside influences.

A key focus embraced by our City, is a commitment to relational learning and whole?of?community ways of providing education, human services and support. Relational learning collaborations support us to establish future actions which will enhancing our overall long term effectiveness.

The City of Mount Gambier has established a formal community based sub-committee to support our work in this area with a commitment to moving forward strongly with an articulated vision and community minded approach.

Relational Learning means we share our learning agenda and planning process, walking, listening, learning together.  

Council recognises early childhood learning and development as fundamentally important, and has worked closely with stakeholders and community towards the development of a Children’s Strategy for Mount Gambier.

Innovative leadership and partnership investment has seen the City of Mount Gambier, deepen our appreciation of early childhood learning and engagement.

Council have developed award winning learning services, changes in civic programming, and drafted an aspirational Charter for Children to enhance early childhood experiences, and is now exploring opportunities to enhance outdoor nature-scapes to improve learning.

Recognising the need to effect enduring positive change to support our community to flourish, over the past few years we chose to concentrate our focus to creating spaces and opportunities to improve the valued experience of the early developmental years of our residents.

From a relational learning framework shared with the Cities’ formal and informal educators, Council have been working with community partners, to create a shared vision for children and families.

Our relationship with local educators, has been pivotal in  providing  appropriate challenge and guidance for the positive benefit of our children’s  long term futures.
