Our Stories

The COVID-19 global pandemic is a once in a lifetime event that has had a significant impact on our daily lives, resulting in stories of heartbreak, hope, isolation and resilience. The City of Mount Gambier is calling out for the public to be part of the local story ‘My COVID-19’ – a chance to capture history in the making, and chronicle the impact of COVID-19 on our community.

Stories may reveal the shock felt as the outbreak starts, stocking up on supplies, celebrating milestones in a new socially distanced way, street scenes, bin outings, or how life with working from home looks.  You might want to express where you were at the time the pandemic was declared and how that affected your immediate plans, or perhaps think about the message you’d leave future Mount Gambier residents to help them understand the significance of this event.

Examples of the different mediums that can capture these stories:

  • short stories
  • poems
  • artwork that has been inspired during this time
  • short films or clips
  • social media posts
  • photographs

The submissions will be collated into the history collection of the Mount Gambier Library, with a view to hosting an exhibition of materials at The Riddoch & Main Corner Complex once we are able. It is expected the collation will occur over several months as we continue to adjust to changes in our lifestyles brought on by the pandemic.

Complete this form to submit your story. If you’d prefer to speak to someone in person, or if you have film footage you’re not able to upload, then contact us at mycovid19@mountgambier.sa.gov.au
